The AIPA welcomes submissions featuring concept driven photographic work by New Zealand photographers, photo assistants, and photography students.
Photo essays should include between 6 and 16 images that clearly communicate a concise idea or narrative concept. In other words we are not looking for a selection of “pretty pictures”. Selected essays will convey an intent that goes far beyond the aesthetic qualities of the images themselves. Each series submitted for review should have meaning and purpose!
Images should be supplied as high-quality jpg files that are exactly 630 pixels in height and have an embedded sRGB colour profile.
Each photo essay must also be accompanied by a written synopsis (between 50 and 500 words) that clearly describes the underlying concept of the work.
Please email all images and text to mail@imagenation.co.nz for consideration. Submissions will be reviewed independently and anonymously by a panel of 3 to 5 highly experienced photo industry practitioners.
In exchange for granting a limited non-exclusive licence that allows the AIPA to publish their photo series and accompanying text on this website, each photographer whose work is selected for publication will receive:
- A NZ$200 cash payment (AIPA Members will receive NZ$400) courtesy of the AIPA
- A Sandisk Extreme 16GB Compact Flash Card courtesy of Lacklands
- A Frio Cold Shoe courtesy of Enlight Photo
- A ticket to the Image Nation 2012 Professional Photography Conference courtesy of the AIPA
Photographers are welcome to submit more than one photo essay.
In addition, all photographers with photo essays featured on the site before June 1st next year (2012) will be in the running to win the Image Nation Annual Photography Award worth over NZ$5500. This prize package includes:
- A Sony VAIO 14 inch C series laptop courtesy of Sony New Zealand
